A Major Project With A Significant Mission: How We Potentially Helped The Riga Municipality Optimize And Reduce Electricity Costs In 50 Schools

In 2024, our team successfully completed a large-scale project in collaboration with the Riga Municipality (RM). The goal of the project was to determine the maximum measured current of Riga’s schools and, if necessary, optimize it to reduce monthly electricity bills. The issue lies in the fact that each school pays a fixed amount for input power: the higher the power reserve, the larger the payment. That is why AdvanGrid offered a comprehensive solution using its own equipment and expertise in response to the request for assistance.

Project Overview

• Task: To analyze the actual power consumption of all schools to see if it was possible to reduce the maximum connected capacity and thus lower the burden of electricity bills.
• Scope: Within a short timeframe, it was necessary to equip 50 schools—some of which even had two or more connection points.
• Solution: Install the required equipment to measure and analyze maximum current, then prepare individual reports for each facility.

What We Achieved

1. Installed Measurement Equipment
   We swiftly deployed our measuring devices in all 50 schools. Thanks to well-planned logistics and a coordinated team effort, we successfully met the project deadlines.
2. Prepared Individual Reports
   Each facility (school) received a detailed report with precise measurements, aimed at achieving further cost savings.
3. Trained Specialists
   In addition to installing and configuring the equipment, we also provided training to RM representatives on interpreting the data and independently working with our systems.

Results and Client Feedback

After conducting thorough measurements, we identified the potential to optimize up to 63% of the connected capacity in schools. Specifically, the measured current was 6,862A, compared to the connected capacity of 18,146A, indicating a difference of 62.19%. This insight provides opportunities for potentially reducing monthly electricity bills and enhancing the energy efficiency of the infrastructure in the future.
